  • Aromatherapy works by inhaling or absorbing essential oils, which are extracted from various plant parts. The scents of essential oils stimulate the limbic system, the part of the brain that controls emotions, smell, and some physiological functions.

The olfactory system is responsible for our sense of smell. It starts in the nose, where tiny hairs called cilia detect odors and send signals to the brain. These signals are relayed to the limbic system, influencing the central nervous system. Pleasant odors have a deeper impact on our nervous system compared to unpleasant ones. This process operates mostly on a subconscious level.

When absorbed through the skin, essential oils enter the bloodstream and circulate throughout the body. They support mood regulation, stress relief, immune health, and more. Additionally, essential oils can act locally with their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antifungal, and analgesic properties. Aromatherapy may improve emotional and physiological well-being, such as pain relief, mood enhancement, cognitive function, respiratory health, and infection prevention.

Each plant produces unique essential oils with distinct properties and benefits that support our health and well-being. It is the role of an aromatherapist to apply their training and knowledge of essential oils and other plant-based extracts to support physical, emotional, and mental well-being by developing safe, targeted formulas in easy to use applications for specific conditions.

Warnings for All Essential Oils: Never ingest (take internally) or use undiluted essential oils. Always keep them away from eyes, children, and pets. If you have serious health conditions, consult a health practitioner before use.
